Todo
bring
- Jay's cooler
- A lanyard, if you don't want to pin your ACen badge to your person (they gave out lanyards in 2003, but not last year), plus any lanyard/badge accessories (like
bells?) - Do we need a power inverter for the car, either for laptop or cell phone? -- cp -- I have car adapters for both my phone and laptop, though I'm not planning to bring the laptop. The laptop adapter has tips specifically for Dell laptops, though some are universal. A straight DC/AC converter may still be useful. Scott, weren't you and/or Steve planninng on bringing one of those? -- JayRandom -- Consider the "straight DC/AC converter packed, unless I am told otherwise. --cp
go shopping (see shopping list in "what do we eat" section)
- Jay buy another water bottle

Schedule Highlights
The
Programming Schedule has been posted. It appears to be incomplete, however?
Saturday
- 9am - 10am - Spooning with Bards
- 3pm - 4:30pm - Naze Nani Megatokyo
Who
has said "yes"?
- Jon Keim / Jay Random
- Todd Miller / _Quinn
- Chad / Chad
- Alan Castonguay / codepoetica
- Scott Loper / icywindow
- Stephen Satterthwaite, Scott's friend (who I'm told
lives here)
has said "sounds fun, I'll look into it"?
- I am a section, but I am empty
has said no
- Laine / grlnxtr, and Allen
- Jon's friend Nicole
- Garran, Sorcy, Kitty? Are presumably too far away, but I suppose I ought to at least extend an invitation to them, so I will cc the email about this page to them.
- Being in (roughly) the same location as Kitty-chan, ACen is a bit far. Especially if one has to deal with parental units. So that is a consideration too. (-Mahou)
What
Makes code happy?
- Renders-properly-in-non-IE
website - Dedicated anime music video room
- Live concert by local anime cover band SWEK
- Two dances, the Soap Bubble and Underground Groove
- Anime music video contest
- Iron Chef editing competition
- Excellent company
- MT Panel
- More low key (as promised by J)
- The
Pillows of FLCL fame are playing!
Questions can I ask?
- Was there a Karoke facility at ACen2004? Unknown, but I've heard rumors, which archived
forum threads mention on Saturday night. It would likely be safe to presume it's somewhere in the schedule. - Did Fred commit to being at ACen2005?
He's on the guests page - Can I finish an AMV before then? Or Machinma? The cutoff date is
tenatively set at April 1, 2005 - Is there a central AnimeCentralChicago?-esque information repository? Besides here, there's the
ACen FAQ and
message board on their site, and the mailing list was informative when I subscribed to it in 2003. Wai for Wiki! Where is this MailingList??
Do we eat?
Last year we had some really basic snack foods like goldfish and drinks, I think. People made requests for more substantial and possibly breakfastytype foods to have in the room, and so I'm looking for suggestions here:
snackfoods for room:
- crackers
drinks
- pop?
- water (A water bottle worked great for me at Otakon. I bought a little 1" carribeaner clip thing and clipped the bottle to my belt by its lid-loop thing. -- ^> )
- granola bars / breakfast bars, etc
- canned foods?
- tuna
- loaf(s) of bread
- peanut butter
- jelly/jam
- ramen
- meatstuff
- rice cooker?
- ice for cooler?
Also last year, on Sunday Nicole went to a really good breakfast buffet in the hotel atrium, though I think it ended early and was about $10... -- Is this the GuestBreakfast?? -- cp -- No, it was something that the hotel put on every Sunday, I think -- JayRandom -- Cortana mentioned that there's a GuestBreakfast?-like event happening early first day. Presumably this means Friday morning. Hopefully following the badge obtaination. -- cp? -- Unsure but not hopeful. Given how long registration takes on Friday (1+ hours), and the time of day that such breakfasts are usually held (starting at 0800 or 1000), I have no idea how they're gonna work it. But attending would be neat. -- JayRandom
At Otakon2004, Shannon and I brought a cooler full of bottled water and semi-assembled meals. Through this we managed to cut our overall food budget spendings by a significant amount, compared to eating fastfood all weekend. In addition, it was far more fulfilling and healthy. Fight Scurvy! -- code
That sounds like a very good plan. What sort of semi-assembled foodstuffs did you take? -- ^>
A 24-bottle case of water, 8 cans of tuna, loaf of bread, peanutbutter, jam, instant noodle, some meatstuff. Could have brought a ricecooker too. -- code
Who's planning on going shopping for food-stuffs? I would recommend not trying to import them from Canada, so cp doing any shopping prior to Wednesday evening is unpossible. -- code
Where
Are we staying?
Well, I've got two rooms reserved for the first two nights (Thursday and Friday) at the
Hyatt Regency O'Hare, the convention hotel. Unfortunately, the block of convention rooms is full up for Saturday night, so we've got two rooms reserved at the
Hyatt Rosemont which is a couple blocks North of the convention center (much easier walking distance than the hotel from the first year) and has 24 hour shuttle service (every 15 minutes, or 30 minutes late at night) between the Rosemont, the convention hotel and the airport. Spending Thursday and Friday nights at the Rosemont would cost $194 per room per night, which is why I didn't make reservations there for all three days.
So...
Thursday, May 12, 3pm -- Saturday, May 14, 12pm
Hyatt Regency O'Hare
9300 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue
Rosemont, Illinois 60018
Telephone: 847 696 1234
$124 / night
checkin at 3:00pm
checkout at 12:00pm
Saturday, May 14, 3pm -- Sunday, May 15, 12pm
Hyatt Rosemont
6350 N. River Road
Rosemont, Illinois 60018
Telephone: 847 518 1234
$129 / night
checkin at 3:00pm
checkout at 12:00pm
(Note that this place seems to have free parking. That's one plus. w00t)
But! Moving doesn't have to be as unpleasant as it sounds if we plan well. More on that later. For now, reservations are under my name, address & card number. Email me if you don't have these and want them. Except for the card number. :P We have until April 20th (when they charge a one-night deposit to my card) to decide if we want the second room or not.
How (much)
Current payment plan: all group expenses (hotel, gas, parking, etc) will go on Jay's credit card. Being the resident Ninja Accountant, he will keep a log of these and collect everyone's share of the cost on Sunday. This keeps it relatively simple to divide costs, as only one person has to be reimbursed. Check payment is preferred, cash also acceptable.
- Gas round trip: $34 (per-car?)
- Hotel: $124/night (plus applicable taxes, which the Hyatt site puts at 13%... _)
- Parking: $10/car/day
- Food: $40-$60 total
- Badges: $45 ($35 until 2005-02-19, $40 until 2005-04-09)
A detailed cost estimate is available at
http://wiki.windless.org/misc/acen_costs.xls. Sorry about the Excel format; once I'm on Eternity again I'll save it as either HTML or OpenOffice...
The cutoff for $40 badges is comming up in a week. We need to proceed with procurement. Has anyone yet bought theirs, or is everyone waiting in some limbonic state assuming someone else is taking care of it? -- code
Each person needs to take care of their own registration. I don't think we have near enough people to form a critical mass for their group registration rate (which isn't all that much of an improvement over $40, anyway). And yes, if we want to do the whole "saving money" thing, people need to do their registrations soon. -- ^>
As a result of procrastinating the purchuse of my registration/ badge until he heard other people chiming "yep! I got mine!", CP has currently not preregistered. And
Pre-Registration is now closed. Looks like he'll be standing in line or something. -- code
has been moved so that it's not cluttering up this page any more.
